The Borsehung B18978 is a combined Intake Manifold
Absolute Pressure (MAP) and air temperature sensor for
selected Volkswagen and Audi engines. Available at

WHAT IT DOES MECHANICALLY

This sensor monitors two things simultaneously: the
absolute pressure inside the intake manifold and the
temperature of the incoming air. Both readings feed
directly to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), which uses
them to calculate engine load and adjust the fuel
mixture accordingly. Without accurate data from this
sensor, the ECU cannot manage fuelling correctly.

WHY IT MATTERS

A failing MAP sensor is a common cause of rough idling,
poor throttle response, increased fuel consumption, and
a check engine warning. Fitting a correctly spec’d
replacement restores the accuracy your ECU depends on.
A generic or incorrectly rated sensor can introduce new
running problems rather than solve the original fault.
