The Bosch 0281006061 is a high-precision differential exhaust gas pressure sensor designed primarily for Volkswagen and Audi 2.0 TDI diesel engines. Available at Dub Source JA, Kingston’s dedicated VW and Audi parts specialist in Jamaica.

WHAT IT IS

This sensor is also referred to as a differential pressure sensor because it measures the difference in exhaust gas pressure between two points in the exhaust system, specifically across the diesel particulate filter. It has two pressure ports that connect to sample pipes on either side of the DPF, and it sends a continuous live signal to the ECU reflecting the pressure differential between those two points. This differential reading tells the ECU exactly how much restriction is building up inside the filter as soot accumulates during normal diesel operation.

WHAT IT CONTROLS

The ECU uses the pressure differential data from this sensor to manage two critical processes simultaneously. The first is the DPF regeneration cycle, where the ECU raises exhaust temperatures to burn off accumulated soot and clean the filter. Without accurate pressure data the ECU cannot determine when regeneration is needed or confirm that it has been completed successfully. The second is turbocharger protection, where exhaust backpressure data is used to ensure the turbo is not operating against excessive restriction that could cause damage to the turbine over time. On 2.0 TDI engines where the turbocharger is a central part of the engine’s performance and efficiency, this protection function is particularly important.

WHY IT MATTERS

When the Bosch 0281006061 fails or sends an inaccurate signal, the ECU loses its ability to manage the DPF and exhaust backpressure correctly. Common symptoms include a DPF warning light on the dashboard, the engine entering a restricted performance mode, failed DPF regeneration cycles that cause the filter to block prematurely, and in some cases turbocharger faults caused by the ECU operating without accurate backpressure data. On 2.0 TDI engines a blocked DPF caused by a failed pressure sensor is one of the more expensive fault progressions to resolve, making the sensor itself a relatively low-cost part that protects against a significantly more expensive outcome.

COMPATIBILITY

The Bosch 0281006061 is designed primarily for Volkswagen and Audi 2.0 TDI diesel engines. Sensor fitment is specific to engine code, DPF configuration, and model year.
